About
"Brazilian singer/guitarist Marcelo Fruet and his group 'Os Cozinheiros' latest album, Aión, blends gorgeous Tropicalia melodies and subtle folk nuances with shades of bossa nova, samba, and other regionally specific influences to create a rock sound that’s singular in its marriage of modern textures and traditional Brazilian musical inflections."

Based in Porto Alegre, capital of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil’s Southernmost State, Marcelo Fruet & Os Cozinheiros are a unique mix of influences. The world-famous Brazilian legacy of bossa nova and samba, Tropicália, rock, jazz, and folk all figure into their work. But they are undeniably a part of their own particular region: the south of Brazil, where they have also absorbed the regional border influences that make their music unique.
The Cozinheiros are led by guitarist, vocalist, songwriter and studio wizard Marcelo Fruet, who has won multiple honors including an Açorianos award for Producer of the Year and Best Original Soundtrack at the Gramado Film Festival. The Cozinheiros’ second disc, *AIÓN*, made multiple best-of-2012 lists in Brazilian newspapers, alongside such artists as Caetano Veloso and Leonard Cohen. It has been nominated for the Prêmio Açorianos de Música and was recently considered to the Latin Grammy Awards nomination for best Brazilian Rock Album, Best New Artist and Best Engineered Album. Fruet’s songs have also appeared on *Big Brother Brazil*, one of the country’s highest-rated shows.
On the road, the band has played many venues across the country and abroad. They started the *AIÓN* tour in Japan, playing KMC festival plus 8 more shows in Osaka, Tokyo and Sapporo. They also played at SXSW for the second time and performed a tour over 14 venues across USA, including places such as Arlene’s Grocery (NYC), William & Mary University (Williansburg - VA) and Eddie’s Attic (ATL). In October 2013 they were one of the three-only bands from Brazil going to CMJ Music Marathon to perform and they were back to US, for the fourth time, to play SXSW 2015.
